Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Rampart mobile application ("App") operated by Rampart Technologies - FZCO ("we", "us", "Rampart"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
1. Description of Service
Rampart is a security application that scans emails and SMS messages for phishing, scams, and other threats. The App provides threat detection, community-powered scam voting, and optional family oversight features. Rampart is designed as a protective tool and does not guarantee detection of all threats.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Rampart. If you are under 18, you must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. By using the App, you represent that you meet these requirements.
3. Account Registration
To use Rampart, you must create an account using Apple Sign-In, Google, or Microsoft authentication. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
Apple Sign-In is used for account authentication only. If you choose Apple's private email relay, we use that relay address for account communications. Email scanning requires a separately connected Gmail or Outlook account.
Family Members using Rampart solely to monitor a loved one's protection status through the Family Check-in feature are subject to these Terms in full, including the acceptable use and account security provisions.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Rampart offers a free trial period followed by paid subscription plans. By subscribing, you agree to the following:
- Free Trial: New users receive a free trial period. You will not be charged during the trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically begin and you will be charged.
- Billing: Subscriptions are billed through Apple's App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
- Auto-Renewal: Subscriptions automatically renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- Cancellation: You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain access until then.
- Refunds: Refund requests are handled by Apple according to their refund policies. We do not process refunds directly.
- Price Changes: We may change subscription prices. You will be notified in advance, and price changes will not affect your current billing period.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Attempt to manipulate community safety votes or submit fraudulent scam reports
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to interact with the App
- Circumvent security measures, including device banning or rate limiting
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's infrastructure or other users' experience
- Use the App to harass, stalk, or monitor others without their consent
- Share your account credentials with others or create multiple accounts
6. Community Voting System
Rampart includes a community voting system where users can mark messages as "scam" or "safe." By participating, you agree that:
- Your votes contribute to aggregated community intelligence that benefits all users
- You will vote honestly based on your genuine assessment of messages
- Coordinated manipulation of votes (Sybil attacks) will result in permanent account and device bans
- We use device fingerprinting and vote weighting to detect and prevent manipulation
- Votes cannot be withdrawn once submitted, though they may be weighted differently over time
7. Family Check-in Feature
The Family Check-in feature lets a designated family member view your protection status — a summary of whether the app is active, how many threats have been caught recently, and when the last scan ran. No message content of any kind is ever shared through this feature.
There are two roles:
- Protected User: The person running Rampart on their own device. You authorize the family member through a secure in-app process. Your protection status is shared; your emails, texts, and any message details are never shared.
- Family Member: The person monitoring a loved one's protection status. Family Members may use this feature at no charge, without a paid subscription. You see only protection status information, not the content, subjects, senders, or any other details of messages on the Protected User's device.
By using this feature, both parties agree that: both parties must explicitly confirm consent via an in-app prompt before the connection is activated; either party may revoke the connection at any time from the App's settings with immediate effect; this feature is designed for adult caregivers supporting elderly family members or guardians supporting minors and must not be used for unauthorized surveillance.
8. Onboarding and Personalization
During onboarding, you may enter a preferred first name and answer a small number of optional questions about your security concerns and technology comfort level. Your answers are used solely to personalize your in-app experience and are not shared with third parties. Providing a first name and answering the personalization questions is optional. You may update or remove these preferences at any time from Settings.
9. Email and SMS Access
When you connect your Gmail or Outlook account, you grant Rampart read-only access to your inbox for the purpose of scanning emails for threats. You acknowledge that:
- Rampart accesses your emails through Google's and Microsoft's official OAuth APIs with read-only permissions
- Email content is analyzed in memory and not stored in readable form — only hashed identifiers and threat analysis results are retained
- You can disconnect your email account at any time from the App's settings, which immediately revokes access and deletes stored OAuth tokens
- SMS filtering operates entirely on your device through Apple's IdentityLookup framework — message content never leaves your phone
Push notifications are required for Rampart to deliver real-time threat alerts. If you decline or later disable notifications for Rampart in iOS Settings, the app will continue scanning but threat alerts will not reach your device. The Company accepts no liability for threats that go undetected or unactioned because notification permission was not granted or was disabled by the user.
10. Data Contribution (Optional)
You may optionally choose to contribute technical signals from messages you flag as scams to help improve threat detection for all users. This feature is governed by our Privacy Policy and requires separate, explicit opt-in consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.
11. Intellectual Property
The App, including its design, code, algorithms, threat detection models, whitelist databases, and all associated content, is the intellectual property of Rampart Technologies - FZCO and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
Rampart is a threat detection aid and should not be your sole line of defense against scams, phishing, or fraud. We strongly recommend maintaining standard security practices including keeping your devices updated, using strong passwords, and exercising caution with unfamiliar messages.
13. Limitation of Liability
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
14. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Rampart Technologies - FZCO, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the App, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
15. Account Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or manipulate the community voting system. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Upon account deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
16. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or via email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the App and cancel your subscription.
17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved through the courts of Dubai, UAE, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction provide otherwise.
18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
19. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Rampart Technologies - FZCO regarding the App.
